Life Deep Learning
Lifelong learning (learning over the span of years) and life wide learning
(learning across a broad range of activities) have been discussed extensively
by adult educators over the past 60 years but life deep learning has been
in the shadows. Acknowledged but not explored specifically, we have skirted around its edges. PIMA has put the spotlight on life deep learning through sharing perspectives, theories and most importantly on members' life journeys where they experienced life deep learning. In this section we reflect on the discussions PIMA has had over the years and identify new and emerging perspectives for the future.

Life Deep Learning
by Dorothy Lucardie
This article focuses on two aspects of Life deep learning that have emerged. The first has a practical application, the individual building of specialised knowledge and the development of a “soft skill” to engage with others enabling adaptation and change. The second is metaphysical phenomena where individuals and communities transmit values, construct meaning, share emotions and develop spiritual or communal understandings
Reorient the path to purpose
by Yahui Fang
This article showcased a local initiative to create an intergenerational co-learning space—to strengthen mutual-aid networks and weave students and elders together through hands-on collaboration. It argues that this model of “life deep learning,” grounded in experiential education, empathic dialogue, and rituals of celebration and mourning, nurtures non-cognitive skills, spiritual growth, and active citizenship.
