Democracy: A Call to Arms

Chris Brooks briefly reviews the multiple and interrelated factors behind the current crisis in democracy. These have led to the rise of populist, anti- democratic governments around the world. There is an urgent ‘struggle for democracy’ between those who want to deepen and strengthen democratic practices and others who argue for an authoritarian system of power. There has been a failure of institutions such as the legal system to protect democratic rights.
Dialogue as praxis in educating for peace

Vaughn John centres dialogue within peacebuilding processes and as a powerful pedagogy in peace and justice education. Dialogue helps to address power imbalances while conveying respectful recognition of the other and their positions. When combined with reflection and action, dialogue can become part of powerful praxis for building a better world.
